Learn more about us

Hi Everyone I know it is not quite November, but I have some information that I have been asked to share with my parents by Lancashire County Council Early Years Education Council:

Healthy Start support sessions in LCC Libraries

The Healthy Start scheme is now a digital service, offering an online application process, and issues a prepaid Mastercard to be used for purchasing healthy food and milk. This digital service replaces the paper application forms and paper vouchers. Beneficiaries of the scheme will also be able to also use their prepaid card to collect free Healthy Start vitamins.

To support Lancashire's residents for those who are eligible with the online application process, sessions will be available, beginning on Monday 31st October at designated libraries across 6 of Lancashire's Districts, Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn, Preston, Lancaster and West Lancashire.  Please see the timetable below.

These sessions are dedicated sessions, where the digital champions and Library staff will be able to provide support with access to a computer or answer any questions individuals may have re. Healthy Start and/or the application process.  Outside of these times the larger libraries will have trained staff who cover every day of the week and can deliver assisted digital support either on the spot or by appointment depending on how busy the library is at the time.

In addition, there are a selection of resources available including two briefing videos: What is Healthy Start?  and the second video about FAQ's and what is required for the application and a crib-sheet of need to knows to support anything related to Healthy Start applications

At the moment the only local sessions are

The next item I have been asked to share with parents:

Primary school admissions

We have contacted you because you are currently shown on the LCC database as providing child care to children under the age of 5 and we would welcome your help, please.

The online school admission system is now open for children who will start primary school in September 2023.

The system is available via this link              www.lancashire.gov.uk/schools

We would be grateful if you could highlight this to relevant parents, please.

The closing date is 15 January 2023.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

The next item I have been asked to share with you all is

Home learning campaign

The Department for Education (DfE), in conjunction with the Department of Health and Social Care’s Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), has launched a new home learning environment (HLE) campaign.

The month long campaign will encourage parents and carers to chat, play and read more with their children, in order to develop their communication, language and literacy skills before starting school. The main objective of the campaign will be to direct parents to its HLE online hub, where they can find ideas of activities to do with their children and explore where to find further support in their local area.

Please promote the campaign with your parents if you can.

Nursery News

With Christmas fast approaching I have received a code for 10% off any online purchase from the baby born range the code is ICHILDBB10 and  can be used at baby-born.co.uk

Friday the 18th of November is Children in need day. Last year we did raise funds for the charity through sales of their merchandise I had bought and a raffle. However with the enormous  financial strain that families now are facing we will not be asking for donations, families can decide if they want to make online donations during the Pudsey evening on television. However you may see that I still have merchandise left over from last year and parents are welcome to take this. There will be no charge or expected donations and  although we are not raising funds for the day everyone is more that welcome to dress up in their best Pudsey outfits all that week leading up to the Friday

Nursery evening teas

Parents whose children stay for teas in the evening know that because I was finding it difficult to accommodate some children’s preferences and was throwing a lot of food in the bin and with the cost of food steadily rising I had said I would only be providing a snack. However on reflection with the nights turning colder I feel that it is beneficial for the children to have a cooked meal. The menu for the meals will be on a two week rota starting with this week as follows:

Week 1

Monday                                                                     Cumberland pie and peas

Tuesday                                                                    Pasta Bolognese

Wednesday                                                               Fish strips, smiley faces &                             spaghetti

Thursday                                                                   Scrambled eggs, beans & toast

Friday                                                                        Pizza and spaghetti

Week 2

Monday                                                                     Macaroni cheese

Tuesday                                                                    Sausage, mashed potato &                           carrots

Wednesday                                                               Lasagne

Thursday                                                                   Three cheese pasta

Friday                                                                        Fish pie and peas

If you know that your child will not eat the food on any of the weeks days

menu, please tell us and bring something in for your child to eat on that day

Nappy Changing

Thank you to all the parents who are now sending in normal nappies instead

of nappy pants , which makes it a lot easier when we are having to change

several children, could I also remind parents to please make sure you also send

in wet wipes in your child’s change bag

Outdoor clothing

Now that the weather is turning colder could you please make sure that your

Child has a warm coat and suitable outdoor shoes, which you do not mind

getting muddy.

November topics

In November we have Bonfire night on the 5th November and we will be doing

Rhymes and songs and talking about why we celebrate bonfire night

Remembrance Sunday is on the 13th November and we will be discussing why

We buy poppies and how we remember how important this day is.

Diwali the Indian festival of light was celebrated on Monday 24th October and we

will be talking about why we light candles and what is celebrated on the five

days. On day one families get everything ready they clean the houses and make

the their Rangoli designs, the second day special food is prepared, the third day

is when the candles and fireworks are lit and apparently the fourth day of the

Diwali celebrations is when partners say thank you to their spouse with a

present and the fifth day focuses on the bond between brothers and sisters.

St Andrews Day is on the 30th November and all Scottish people celebrate their

culture, traditional cuisine and dance on this day

All of these events will support our learning focus for this term:

Birth to Three:

  • Notice differences between people and what they celebrate

Three to five

  • Continue developing positive attitudes about the differences between people
  • Recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways

Anyway with all the information I have been asked to pass onto you all this is a rather long newsletter. So thank you all for your continuing support and if you have any question don’t hesitate to talk to me.

Jenny
